What Is Creativity, Really?

What Is Creativity, Really?

Is it art? Is it craft?

It’s not talent. It’s the power to see differently and make things better.

The Question That Never Stops Evolving

“What is creativity?”

It’s a question I’ve asked myself countless times, in art classes, during late-night brainstorming sessions, and even while cooking dinner.
At first, I thought creativity lived only in art: in paintings, drawings, colors, and composition. That was where my story began.

But over time, I realized that art and creativity aren’t the same thing.
Art is expression.
Creativity is exploration.
It’s the act of seeing things differently and thinking beyond what we already do.

Creativity Beyond Art

I’ve found creativity everywhere: in writing, in cooking, in running a hypothetical small café, in business meetings, and especially in my design.

Because creativity is not artistic talent.
You can be artistic without being creative, and you can be incredibly creative without ever touching a paintbrush.

Creativity is something more.
It’s a spark that starts a flame: the power to change, to move, to make a difference.

It’s what drives us to ask, “Why do we do this?” and “What if we tried it differently?”
And it’s what has allowed me to carve out a space between art and business — where design becomes the marriage of both worlds: emotional and strategic, expressive and functional.

A Balance Between Understanding and Expanding

For me, creativity is an endless dance between two forces:

  • Understanding – knowing where you are.
  • Expanding – imagining what could be.

It’s about finding meaning in the familiar and stretching it just enough to create something new.
It’s the wandering mind on a lazy Sunday afternoon, connecting ideas that were never meant to meet… until they did.

Because change is the catalyst of creativity.
It’s the why behind the how.

Creativity Is Innovation

At its core, creativity is the ability to imagine alternatives.
It’s what gave us renewable energy, digital transformation, and the tools to face global challenges.

Where would we be without creative solutions for climate change?
Without people willing to imagine a world powered differently, powered better?

Creativity doesn’t always mean “better,” but that’s usually the goal: to take what exists and improve it. To see connections where there were none before.

The Everyday Spark

Creativity isn’t exclusive. It’s in all of us and all around us, in every question, every risk, every small act of trying something new.

It’s what keeps us moving forward as individuals, as businesses, and as a society.
It’s the power to change, to move, and to be different.

Because creativity isn’t a skill you learn.
It’s a spark you choose to keep alive.
